Pinehurst 80th celebrations
Pinehurst Netball Club is the oldest netball club in Swindon, having just celebrated a milestone 80thanniversary by hosting a special Net-Ball bringing together past and current players, friends and family.
On Saturday 8 June, old friends, ex-players, current teams and family all marked the occasion by dressing up in the clubs renowned black and red to celebrate 80 years with a well-deserved dinner, drink and dance.
Pinehurst Netball Club was founded by Doreen Wilcox MBE, 95, and her school friend Jean Neville when they were just 15 years old. 80 years later the club is still going strong with more members than ever.
Doreen who has been loyal since the very beginning, still attends many of the weekly training sessions and games to watch and support the players. She has also been awarded an MBE for her dedication to the community and her charity work, including raising over £100,000 for various cancer charities.
Various awards were presented on the night including our end of season awards for both juniors and seniors plus the introduction of 2 new awards: The Doreen Wilcox award for contribution and in memory of Joan White, the Joan White award for volunteer commitment.
