Revised Rules from September 2024
SDNA have hosted a number of workshops and practical sessions to help Umpires, Coaches, Managers and Players to appreciate the changes from September.
Workshops were held on Tuesday 21st May and then on the 15th June with an AM and PM session.
In addition to these workshops, SDNA ran two further practical sessions with matches being played and umpires being able to practice umpiring and players and managers working within the revised rules. These additional sessions took place on Wednesday 31st July and Wednesday 7th August and were led by Dan Racey and Kelly Allen. Thank you to both for your expertise, humour and patience in answering the many questions and queries posed.
Week One Revised Rule Update - Centre Passes
Centre passes are indicated by both umpires at the start of each quarter and after a goal is scored.
The controlling umpire will call out the name of the team taking the centre pass. The controlling umpire blows for the centre pass when the centre steps into the centre circle.
The updated rules allows an on court player to appeal to the umpires if they believe the centre is being incorrectly signalled.
The umpires will then check with the scorers who will confirm the correct centre pass.
In summary:
The controlling umpire must now call the name of the team taking the centre pass.
Only an on-court player can appeal the centre pass. Not the bench or coach.
Appeal must be made before the centre pass is taken.
Once the centre pass has been taken, it is too late and any mistake cannot be rectified.
